My assignment is about Britney Spears who was born on 2nd December 1981 in McComb, Mississippi. she is 36 years old and is currently in the life stage of early adulthood. I will be writing about 3 different life stages (infancy, early childhood, and adolescence) she has been through. Infancy: The first life stage Britney experienced was infancy. In infancy, an infant in the norm would physically weigh 6.5-7.8lb and should be between 18.9-19.8 inches at the ages of 0-1 month. They would also develop primitive reflexes and have control of their head. When an infant hits 4-6 months they would physically be able to sit unsupported, roll over and develop their fine motor skills such as moving things from one hand to another. Also at this age, they should weigh between 14.8-17.5lb and be 26.1-27.2 inches tall. Physically infants start to stand alone at the age of 9 months and eventually develop the fine motor skill of having ‘pincer’ movements between their thumbs and fingers. This would allow infants to explore and discover for themselves by being in contact with the things around them. At the age of 12-15 months, an infant can develop gross motor skills like running and walking. By the time an infant has reached the age of 2 years they would be able to eat completely with a spoon. Similarly, Britney was in the norm for most of these factors, for example, she could physically move her hands towards an object (eg-bottle) at the age of 2 ½ months and physically be able to roll over at the age of 6 months. She also weighed in the average region as she grew older. For example, at birth, she weighed 19.3lb and was 28.7 inches tall. This was because Britany was being provided with a balanced diet to help her maintain a normal height and weight. However, she was above average when developing to walk and run. Britney was at the age of 17 months when she was able to walk. This was due to the facts that her parents were overprotective and would carry her everywhere. Having this lack of encouragement and opportunity, Britney was unable to exert to walk, which lead to a slow development of this gross motor skill.Intellectually infants who are in the norm start to babble and make noises at the age of 3-6 months. They would also start to understand simple words such as “bye, bye” when they have reached 6-9 months old. At 9-12 months the babbling gets repetitive. This is known as echolalia because it sounds like an echo. When an infant reaches the age of 1 year they would have a vocabulary of about three words and would be able to respond to simple commands for example “wave bye-bye”. They would also be able to understand a lot more words than they would say. By the time they are 2 years of age they would be able to speak but from a low stage. This could include the development of holophrastic speech or single words such as “I, me, you” and two-word phrases like “up there”, “where cat”. This is known as telegraphic sentences. Also at this age, an infant could recognize and name people they know.Britney’s intellectual development was below average. The milestone of talking for Britney started when she was only 12 ½. This was because she was brought up with many people around her which meant that she was intellectually able to pick up words faster than other infants.Emotionally infants start by bonding through close contact with their parent/career. This is known as attachment. Infants also grow closer and develop emotional ties with their main career. This is known as bonding. Infants mainly do this to gain trust. When an infant is 3-6 months they would start to enjoy cuddles, laugh and would like to be played with. At this age, they would also get upset if they are left alone without their main career (the person they would trust the most). Infants would start to recognize people they know and would pick out people they don’t know. This would then lead to an emotional development of being afraid (which occurs at 9 months). Between 1-2 years infants would start to show affection for their parents. However, they would want everything there own way. This would then lead to poor behaviour such as screaming, throwing themselves to the ground, and getting really angry, otherwise known as temper tantrums. In comparison, Britney was too attached to her parents. She was unable to stay in the same room with people she didn’t recognize. This was due to the fact that Bitney was really close to her mother. However, Britney rarely had any temper tantrums. This was because both her parents raised her in a way where would understand that she cant always get her own way. Socially, in infancy, an infant’s first relationship is with their parents or main career. However, as they get older they would start to play alone and away from their parents. This is known as solo play. Solo play is important because it brings out an infants imagination and develops their social independence. By the time an infant is between the ages of 12-18 months they would start to play in the same room as other children but not interact with them. This is known as parallel play. Parallel play is the first form of social interaction with another infant. This type of play is important because it develops them to become more confident around each other and teaches them how to build social relationships.For Britney, social development was hard for her. She was comfortable with solo play, however, when she experienced parallel play she did not enjoy it. Britney would avoid being in the same room as infants she did not know. this was due to the fact that she was used to playing on her own and she would not have to worry about anything.Overall, Britney’s first life stage was mostly at an average. However, many of her developments influenced some factors positively and negatively. Physically, Britney was at average in her weight and height. This affected her emotionally because it made her more happy due to being healthy and well-balanced. Her intellectual development of talking was below average. This impacted her social development in a positive way because she was able to communicate to members of her family at a young age and gave her an advantage of more complex language when she got older. Her intellectual developments, such as recognising people, also affected her emotionally. This was because she was able to tell between different emotions due to the person’s facial expressions. Britney’s emotional development was fine but she was shy when experiencing parallel play. This was probably because she had attachment issues and would get very upset if she was left alone with people she did not know or recognise.
